Why the vagus nerve?

The vagus nerve is one of twelve pairs of cranial nerves that originate in the brain stem and extend to various parts of the body. It is the longest and most complex nerve in the autonomic nervous system.

The vagus nerve has multiple branches and extends from the brain stem to the abdomen, passing through the neck, thorax and abdomen. It is a key part of the parasympathetic system and plays a critical role in regulating many bodily functions.

The main functions of the vagus nerve include:

*Regulation of the cardiovascular system

*Control of respiratory function

* Digestion and appetite regulation

*Control of the relaxation response

*Mood and stress regulation
